About

Poetry is a portal to my soul.

My name is Leanne and I’m a poet, making it up as I go.

Me Collage

With a pen in hand I feel at home. This passion has helped me through some tough struggles, but it’s also given me a platform to celebrate my greatest joys. Thank you for letting me share my truths with you. I hope you find your own passion that gives you as much strength as poetry gives to me. Come back to She’s in Prison soon!

I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. I went to college at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA and studied creative writing, film, and theater. I’m currently getting my master’s degree from Brandeis in strategic analytics. Professionally, I am a data analyst. It’s an unlikely career for someone that breathes poetry, but I like the contrast.

My other passions include singing, learning guitar, rock climbing, weightlifting, yoga, bike riding, reading, hiking, traveling, baking, and spending as much time as I can with the people that I love. I dream of starting a family and look forward to the gift of tomorrow.

Thank you for visiting!

Much love,

Leanne Rebecca Ortbals

  4. Thank you so much for liking my post, Confessions of a Kindergarten Drop-out. It was a sweet start to my Monday at home…no school prison for this little girl all grown up. 🙂 Continue your poetry, Leanne! Your words matter. ~ Carmen, xenophileathome.wordpress.com

  5. thanks for your arresting blog. i also appreciate your thumbs-up for my latest post. by the way, i hope you’re not actually in prison. i’ve heard it’s not much fun.

    1. You’re welcome, and thanks for stopping by. I’ve also heard that prison isn’t the happiest of places. Luckily, my imprisonment is purely metaphoric (or unluckily?). Cheers!

  6. Love your song, Leanne. Life is not fair, you’re right, and as soon as we accept that it is so, it becomes easier to deal with our issues, freeing us to pursue our passions and enjoy life as much as we can. You have certainly found your vocation. And thanks for stopping by and liking my post.

  7. Thank You for the visit. Love your Intro….agree totally. Someone was speaking about fractions, I thought that was Math!

  8. Hi, I’m so glad that you liked one of my posts because it made me come here and read your wonderful poetry. I like your style very much indeed.
Also it seems that we have chose the same theme/style for our blogs and both decided to mess with it in our own individual ways. It feels strangely familiar yet different, like a house I used to live in.
I love what you’ve done with the place… ooopsss.
Thanks again for getting me over here.

  9. Thanks so much for your visit today, I’ve made a couple of revisions – the writer push in me. 🙂
