In Return

In ReturnWhen I started She’s in Prison almost a year ago, I promised myself that I’d be transparent in my writing. I vowed to share the tough stuff, even if it hurt or I felt exposed or uncomfortable. This is one of those poems, which may be a surprise because I recognize that the message is simple. I struggled in writing it, I admit. I don’t see the point in putting up a front that I’m uber confident in each and every one of my pieces. Truth is, I’m not, which I like even better. The words you see above are inspired by emotions I’m working through in this moment and I don’t feel I’ve been able to capture them fully. But as I was listening to “I Got You” by Leona Lewis, I knew I had to try.

Come back next Sunday for more poetry inspired by songs on my playlist. Also, don’t forget to hit the follow button on the left and hit me up on Twitter too!

Lovely

LovelyHow do you make someone believe they’re lovely? More importantly, how do you make yourself believe that you are lovely? It’s a question that no one can answer for you but I encourage you to explore it. And in the meantime, check out the song “Lovely” by Twenty One Pilots below (it’s one of my favorites!) and peruse the archives of my other TOP inspired poetry HERE! Happy Saturday!

Invisible

It’s Sunday folks, which means it’s time for me to announce my NEW SUNDAY SERIES on She’s in Prison! The past 8 months have been dedicated to the Josh Dun Poetry Corner, a series inspired by the drummer from the band Twenty One Pilots. But with the new year I retired Josh’s Corner in a bittersweet culminating post, ready to leap into a new adventure.

So here it is…my new weekly tradition:

I will post a poem inspired by one (or two) song(s) on my current playlist. Every week will be a new band, so hopefully ya’ll can discover some great music and I can celebrate my favorites. Win!

Ready? Let’s go!

A Car, A Torch, A Death

A Car, A Torch, A DeathNow’s the moment when I admit weakness…

I’ve failed to post my regular Saturday series for weeks. I have no excuse, except to say I’m human and anything but perfect. But it’s the new year and time to get back on track.

So, per my usually usual Saturday series, I give you a poem inspired by the title of a Twenty One Pilots’ song. Find the archives of all my TOP titled poetry under my featured tab and as always, give a listen to the band that’s held my hand with interlocked fingers for all of 2013 below.

The Click

The ClickI remember the first moment I saw Twenty One Pilots. Their music resonated with me before Tyler even started singing. But even more amazing is the camaraderie I’ve discovered with so many other people because of this one commonality, friends from other countries met via social media or at local St. Louis vegetarian restaurants, all sharing a respect for two boys in a band from Columbus, Ohio.  Find the archives of the Josh Dun Poetry Corner HERE and check back every Sunday for a new post!
